Transcript - What is the Evaluation Profession? Julia Pickworth and Richard Windeyer - co-Heads of the Procurement and Contract Management Profession [upbeat music] >> RICHARD: As public servants, we're charged with serving efficiently and effectively the Parliament, the Government, and the Australian public. And procurement is a significant part of that endeavour, a $99 billion part of that endeavour. Being involved in a profession that is looking to improve the professionalisation of procurement and develop a cohort of professional procurement officers in the public service is an extremely exciting chance to be part of making the public servants of Australia's future as good as they can be. >> JULIA: The benefit of the profession is that it means as a public service that we are our best selves and that we're collectively delivering for Australia. And if we get the capability and the culture right, that protects us and protects our future selves, but also, delivers more outcomes for Australia. >> RICHARD: Joining the profession, you don't need to be someone who aspires to work in procurement your entire career, but you do need to be someone who is involved in the world of procurement and contract management, which is something that is part of the daily lives of many public servants, even if perhaps you don't realise it. >> JULIA: The span of what people can do in their career in procurement and contract management in the public service, it's truly amazing. And so, I think part of that's what the profession can do is to knit together that and create better pathways for people to be able to have a great career in the public service in procurement and contract management.
