Transcript - What is the Evaluation Profession? Dr Shane Johnson and Danielle Wood, co-Heads of the Evaluation Profession [upbeat music] >> DANIELLE: Is there anything better than digging in the data to understand the impacts of a programme or getting out into the community to see how policy's working on the ground? If that's your job or part of it, or you'd like it to be, I would really encourage you to join the APS Evaluation Profession. >> SHANE: We're looking to help the APS build the skills needed to use evaluation to design and deliver effective policies, policies that make a real difference, that impact and have a positive influence on the lives of all Australians. >> DANIELLE: Whether it's Closing The Gap, mental health, trade, water, or schools, a big part of our job is asking what do governments want to achieve here and can they do it better. That important work of evaluating government policy is a core part of what many of us do in the public service. >> SHANE: The profession provides wonderful opportunities to network, to go talk and engage with evaluation experts from across the service and outside, bringing in the most advanced evaluation techniques to try and support good evaluation activity, to also ensuring that we're doing evaluation in a culturally appropriate way. >> DANIELLE: We support the people who support good policymaking, and we are forging a path for people that want to make a career in the public service, doing this quiet but vital work. >> SHANE: So if you're really interested in evaluation and interested in evidence-informed policy and you want to learn more about it and want to meet and engage with people who are also really passionate, I really encourage you to come and join us in the Evaluation Profession, and I hope to see you at one of our upcoming events.
